Gone Racin ...

Racing this weekend. Will return on Monday. In the meantime, a brief story about a silly indulgence that led to an awesome moment.

I own a 2002 Yamaha YZF-R1. I am preparing for retirement, so I'm practical with my indulgences. Why do I own a 12-year-old literbike? Because it handles well and is - for all intents and purposes - stupid-fast. No reason to drop $15,000 on a new one when this one makes me giggle every time I pull the trigger!

But I wanted a less understated look. So I took the plunge on a set of bodywork from iFairings in Hong Kong. I ordered something similar to the Garry McCoy YZR500 GP machine livery with a black background (I got a thing for black motorcycles).

As I was putting it all together (decent stuff, especially for the price, which was less than a single-color-and-plates paint job alone from most local painters), my younger brother and nephew came over. My younger brother is a Formula One fanatic. His son, who is eight years old, has seen hundreds of hours of F1 racing. During that period, Sebastian Vettel dominated the series. The majority of races the youngster has seen have been won by a car painted in - yep - Red Bull livery.

My nephew walked into the garage and his jaw dropped.

I'm not sure he's closed it yet.

Be well.
